Mali: KANOUTE says 'no' to English clubs
Malian 29-year-old FC Sevilla's striker Frederic KANOUTE has finally opted to stay with his Spanish club. Last week-end he scored the only goal for Sevilla to defeat Getafe in the Spanish King Cup final.
According to some reports KANOUTE was pushing for a move back to England where he played for West Ham and Tottenham before joigning Sevilla in 2005. But he scored 21 league goals during the season which has just ended, putting FC Sevilla in third position in the Spanish league, what allows them to claim a Champions League place. About his so-called move to England KANOUTE has just opted to stay with Sevilla: "I've read a lot of things that aren't true. I've had two great seasons here and now we'vewon another trophy. I've got two years left on my contract and I'm not planning on moving." This unequivocal decision has dashed a number of Premier League clubs' hopes of signing him, including Newcastle, Portsmouth and Bolton...
KANOUTE's goal against Getafe has confirmed him as Sevilla's most decisive striker, since he has scored in all four of his club's victories in cup finals over the past two seasons: in the UEFA Cup final victory against English club Middlesborough in 2006 and against Espanyol of Barcelona last month, as well as in the 3-0 victory over FC Barcelona in the European Super Cup at the start of the season...
