Recently the Nigeria Football Federation offered Gabriel AGBOLANHOR to play for the « Super Eagles ». The young Aston Villa striker whose father is from Nigeria and who already played for the english national team at youth level turned down the offer on the ground that he is now concentrating in winning a place with the England’s seniors. Yet, another Nigerian born, former Aston Villa and Wimbledon player John FASHANU who won two England caps in 1989 warns AGBOLANHOR about a decision which “lies with him and his family, and he should think about this thoroughly because it will either make or mar his international career.” He added that AGBOLANHOR “will probably get two or three games for England’s seniors and then get discarded, it’s as simple as that. I know this because I am a product of the same system and I am still regretting it now.” He holps up as un exemple “Carlton COLE, Shola AMEOBI and many others who are victim of this terrible misjudgement.
