Former Togo’s coach, Nigerian Stephen KESHI is on a five-man short-list for the vacant post of Zambia’s coach, along with British Botswana’s coach Colwyn ROWE, Brazilian Edson SILVA, former Hunhary coach Bertalan BICKSEI and Englishman James DUFFY. They have been selected among 41 applicants. However, on the word testimony of ROWE, the secretary general of the Botswana Football Association Thabo NTSHINOGANG told BBC that ROWE never applied for that post, but the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) rejected these claims and cofirms that Colwyn ROWE is amongst the applicants.
According to Joseph NKOLE, the secretary general, the choice of Zambia’s coach will be made from a final three-man shortlist, after interviews with the responsibles of the FAZ. The winner will replace Zambia’s football legend Kalusha BWALYA, vice-president of FAZ and one of current ambassadors of the organising committee of the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. BWALYA will probably be elected president of COSAFA (Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations) to replace Ismael BHAMJEE who resigned from office. He trained the Chipolopolo untill april 2006 before resigning because he failed to lead his team to the 2nd round of the African Cup of Nations in Egypt. He was provisionally replaced by the Chipolopolo goalkeeper Patrick PHIRI who did not wished to be confirmed at the head of the natioanl team.
