| A new coach for Cape Verde Islands |
Brazilian Ricardo Cordeira da ROCHA, 41, has just been appointed as new national team coach by the Cape Verdian Football Federation (CVFF). He is due to take office in january with the task of qualifying the national team for the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
ROCHA was originally thought to be the former Real Madrid defender who took part to Brazil’s final victory during the 1994 World Cup. The ROCHA we are talking about was a physical training professor from Santa Catarina, and the Cape Verde’s football authorities have been wanting him all along. A spokeman for the CVFF said ROCHA had been recommended by members of the Cape Verdian community in Brazil.
ROCHA will take charge of the national team for the first time when it meets Algeria in the next African Nations Cup qualifying match of their group in March 2007. So far Cape’s Verde team have won one and lost the other of the two matches they previously played.
