| A new coach for Madagascar |
Last week the Malagasy Football Federation (MFF) appointed the French Malagasy born 43-year-old Hervé ARSENE as the new coach of the national team. He played over 200 matches for French club Racing Lens in Ligue 1 after being signed from a club on the French Indian Ocean of Réunion.
ARSENE replaces his compatriot Jean-Paul ROSSIGNOL who was sacked earlier this month, after Madagascar lost 3-0 to the Ivory Coast in the African National Cup qualifier last month. ARSENE was an assistant to ROSSIGNOL earlier this year, and his appointment came a week before Madagascar compete in the COSAFA Cup mini-tournament in Mozambique. They will play a semi-final match of that tournament against Zambia on 28 April.
ROSSIGNOL has been fired after only one month in charge, and the MFF said he has been sacked on government orders. He had previously worked for the French Football Federation and in the United Arab Emirates, prior to becoming Madagascar national team in March.
