CAF executive member Slim ALOULOU recently headed the fifth CAF four-day inspecting mission to Ghana, in relation with the 2008 African Cup of Nations due to be hosted by that country from 20 January to 10 February. The five-man inspection team has expressed satisfaction after inspecting facilities. "We are pleased with the progress of work so far, said ALOULOU. The current state is a tremendous improvement on our last visit. We are very confident everything will be in order for the competion."
The delegation looked at hotels, training pitches, stadia, medical and communication facilities. At this stage four new venues are undergoing construction and refurbishments for the 16-team tournament. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) declared that construction work at the Sekondi-Essipong Stadium is nearing completion with the installation of floodlights, back-up generators, toilets and othe fittings speeding along.
Slim ALOULOU also said how much he has been impressed by the pace of work in north-lying Tamale, which was a major concern regarding accomodation. But despite the positive comments, he still called on the LOC to speed up work on the training pitches, which should be made ready four months before kick-off of the competition.
