| ROSENIOR: new coach for Sierra Leone |
The former 43-year-old Sierra Leone international Leroy ROSENIOR has just been appointed to take charge of Siera Leone's national team for the next African Nations Cup qualifiers against Togo and Mali. ROSENIOR told BBC Sport that "the move could become permanent", in case of positive results for the two coming matches. He replaces John Jebbar SHERINGTON who will now be part of the 'Leone Stars' technical team.
According to Abu Bakkar KABA, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) administrative secretary, ROSENIOR will be assisted by former Brentford coach Paul MORTIMER. He said ROSENIOR and MORTIMER will be arriving at Freetown today 28 May to start work. Their first game in charge will be at home on 3 June against Togo in the Group Nine tie.
It is interesting to learn that ROSENIOR was in charge of the 'Leone Stars' when they defated English League One side Leyton Orient 3-2 in a friendly in London on 7 May. Abu Bakkar KABA insisted then that ROSENIOR would coach the team only for that match, only because 'Leone Star's coach John Jebbar SHERINGTON had been refused a visa to travel to London. But after the match the chairman of the SLFA Nadim KHADI said he was hoping to persuade ROSENIOR to carry on working with the national team.
Former West Ham player ROSENIOR's career as coach is rich. His first spell at Plainmoor lasted almost 4 years before he left the club by mutual consent in February 2006. He worked as a first-team coach at Shrewsbury before being appointed Brentford manager in Juin 2006, but was sacked in November following a disappointing start to their League One season. After that Torquay named him to replace Keith CURLE after Torquay's relegation from the Football League, before he was called to coach the 'Leone Stars'.
